In early 2020 SOS Children’s Villages Bulgaria started the implementation of the project Pathways to Freedom: Empowering Young People Leaving Alternative Care to Live an Independent and Fulfilling Life. The project is supported by the Active Citizens Fund.

The project is targeting one of the most disadvantaged groups of young people in Bulgaria and will give them an opportunity to compensate for any missing social or work skills.

The aim of the project is to empower 210 young people who are to leave various forms of alternative care and start a life of their own. For this purpose an innovative service will be launched – Support for an independent life. It includes a number of supporting activities and services aiming at:

  • Continuous education
  • Sustainable employment
  • Regular income
  • A home
  • Good health and self-responsibility

The main tool for implementation of the planned activities is the so called Youthlinks digital platform, developed by the international organization SOS Children’s Villages. It already has a  history of being effective in support of youth initiatives.
