The current status, challenges and results of the implemented projects with one year left in implementation - these were the topics of discussion of the Annual Meeting of the EEA and Norway Grants in Bulgaria. The Donors were represented by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Icelandic Embassy in Warsaw covering Bulgaria and the Financial Mechanism Office. The Strategic Report for Bulgaria was discussed together with the partners from Bulgaria - the National Focal Point at the Council of Ministers and the involved entities at the Ministry of Finance. Representatives from the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Energy were invited to present the respective programmes. The meeting was attended also by the Head of the Swiss Contribution Office in Bulgaria, looking forward to explore complementarities and possible synergies for priority sectors in Bulgaria

The day after the meetings were dedicated to project visits in the city of Plovdiv including the Youth Center, the Ancient Stadium and the Mobile Network for Culture and Arts - all of them supported through the EEA and Norway Grants. A project for reduction of the effects of climate change in Plovdiv was also among the visited. The aim is to solve a problem with flood and road erosion of parts of "Maritza" Boulevard caused by heavy rain. The Municipality is bulding drainage channels to take the water directly into the "Maritza" river. In addition, there will  be sensors to monitor the water level and ecological situation. 

The last stop of the Donors' visit was the largest project supported in Bulgaria - the construction of a new prison and training center near the village of Samoranovo. The current state and future plans were presented by representatives of General Directorate Execution of Penalties to the Ministry of Justice and the company engaged in the construction.
