Construction of a new detention facility and modernization of the prison hostel in the village of Samoranovo.

“This is another step by the Ministry of Justice to improve and renovate the conditions in detention facilities and bring them in line with international standards,” said Deputy Minister of Justice Maria Pavlova.

“A key partner of the ministry in achieving this goal is the Norwegian side, which through the Norwegian Financial Mechanism finances some of the most important projects, such as this one,” Pavlova added.

The project envisages the complete construction of a modern detention facility in one of the existing old buildings on the territory of the prison hostel with a capacity of up to 40 people under detention order. By the end of April 2024, the renovation of the open-type prison hostel “Samoranovo” at Bobov Dol Prison, where a half way house will also be built for those who are to be released, should be completed in order to adapt them to society.

“The aim is to create modern conditions for housing the convicts in line with the requirements of European norms and standards,” Pavlova explained.

According to the Director General of the Execution of Punishments General Directorate, Chief Commissioner Ivaylo Yordanov, the hostel, which has a capacity of up to 140, will be renovated with sanitary facilities in the separate dormitories, common floor bathrooms, kitchen and auxiliary rooms, laundry room, boiler room and administrative rooms for the supervisory and administrative staff.
