Experts from Norway's National Criminal Investigation Service conducted trainings at the National Institute of Forensic Science in Bulgaria

In the period 13/09/2022 - 15/09/2022 at the National Institute of Forensic Sciences, Norwegian experts conducted specialised trainings on the topic of "Handwriting investigation" and "Documents investigation". The trainings were held in the framework of project “Development of Expert Forensic Examinations and Activities at National Institute of Forensic Sciences (NIFS-MoI) and Technical Upgrade and Expansion of the Possibilities of Five Basic Regional Forensic Laboratories” financed by Home Affairs Programme from the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014 – 2021.

Mr. Anders Haugseth, project coordinator, and Mr. Hakon Schjonsby, Documents investigation expert, from the National Criminal Investigation Service (NCIS) (Kripos) of Norway were present.

During the training, experts from the Norwegian and Bulgarian sides have the opportunity to share their experience and knowledge in the field of technical and graphic examination of documents. Cases were discussed in technical and graphic research from the Norwegian side - identification of inkjet printers, classification and research of papers, and from a graphic point of view, the guests presented a case with texts containing threats, and a presentation covering protected documents was presented from the Bulgarian side, and more specifically a study of a euro banknote and a certificate of registration, and from a graphic, cases of antidated documents, imitation of a signature, as well as a study of graphic texts filled with spray on building facades were considered. The experts were able to compare their way of performing technical and graphic studies, to find similarities and differences, and for the most part, the ways of working coincided. A presentation related to this year's Interlaboratory Test on Technical Document investigation was also presented by the Norwegian side and discussed in detail.
