New forensic equipment for 10 Regional Directorates of the General Directorate of National Police has been delivered under a project funded by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism. Forensic experts now have field drug tests, forensic cases for evidence recovery and 3D scanners to help solve crimes.

Within the framework of the project "Improving the capacity of police and forensic activity dealing with material evidence in pre-trial investigation process" 410 officers were trained. Lecturers at the seminars were representatives of the Austrian police and leading Bulgarian forensic experts.

The premises for storing material evidence were renovated and equipped according to European standards in the Regional Directorates in Burgas, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Pazardzhik, Pleven, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Sofia and Haskovo.

An automated information system for registration and tracking of material evidence has also been developed.

The results were announced at the closing event of the project.
