General Directorate National Police implements three projects, co-financed by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism.

The General Directorate National Police presented within an online forum held on 9.02.2021 г. three projects implemented with the financial support of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism.
"These are projects of great importance not only for the Ministry of Interior, but also for society, because their common goal is not only to increase the capacity of police and the judiciary, but also to improve the quality of services to citizens.", said the Minister of Interior Hristo Terziyski. The online event was attended by Nikolay Hadjiev, Director of the National police, Juliana Petkova and Ivelina Hristova, Deputy Directors of the National Investigation Service, Dr. Eleonora Lilova, Chairperson of the State Agency for Child Protection, employees of the Ministry of Interior, representatives of the non-governmental sector and others.
The projects are “Improving the capacity of police and forensic activity dealing with material evidence in pre-trial investigation process”, “Improvement of the efficiency of the police activity in the field of the domestic and gender-based violence” and ”Improvement of the coordination and dialogue between Police and Roma society”. The implementation of the three projects started at the end of 2019, their duration is 36 months and the total allocated budget amounts to 4 950 000 Euro.
Project “Improving the capacity of police and forensic activity dealing with material evidence in pre-trial investigation process” is aimed at refurbishing the premises in ten Mol Regional Directorates where material evidence are stored. It also envisages the delivery of specialized buses equipped for the investigation of crime scenes, trainings for police officers and the development of an automated system for the registration and tracking of forensic evidence.
Project “Improvement of the efficiency of the police activity in the field of the domestic and gender-based violence (DGBV)” envisages training of 830 employees to respond to cases of DGBV and for protection of victims of DGBV. The project includes activities for the implementation of effective policies to combat this type of human rights violations and for development of an Algorithm of risk assessment on recognition of DGBV cases. The project also targets activities aimed at improving the situation of the Roma population.
Within the project ”Improvement of the coordination and dialogue between Police and Roma society” 240 police officers will be trained on prevention and detection of radicalism, violent extremism and hate speech against Roma communities. Five awareness raising campaigns will be held on the same issues in order to increase the percentage of Roma population who trust the police. The support from the Norwegian Financial Mechanism contributes to improve the conditions in the reception rooms for citizens in areas with predominant Roma population by repairing existing receptions and delivery of office equipment or building mobile receptions in areas with compact Roma population.
