On 7 March 2022, the Programme Operator of the Environment Protection and Climate Change Programme, co-financed by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (EEA FM) 2014-2021, announced a procedure for Predefined project №1 " Valuation and integration of ecosystem services" under Outcome 1:"Monetary system for all Bulgarian ecosystem developed."
The project aims to provide input for the integration of valued ecosystem services in national planning, accounting and reporting in the tourism sector. The proposed project aims to contribute to the fulfilment of its commitments in relation to Objective 2 of the EU biodiveristy Strategy 2020, as well as to the commitments of the Ministry of Environment and Water to integrate environmental protection policy into other sectoral policies. The published Biodiversity Strategy 2030, calls for "biodiversty considerations to be better integrated into public and business decision-making at all levels" and "These will include measuring the environmental footprint of products and organisations on the environment", including through life-cycle approaches and natural capital accounting". In the first place, this support will be provided through the development of a methodology for the valuation of priortized ecosystem services for nine types of ecosystems in the tourism sector, as well as through the application of the methodology for non-Natura 2000 assessment. Next, the project should plan to develop a national guideline for the integration of natural capital in decision-making processes, which will be prepared with the broad participation of stakeholders and will ensure awareness raising and capacity building of national, regional and local authorities.
The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Water.
The funds provided for the procedure are up to EUR 1,800,049.
The deadine for applying under the procedure is 15.03.2022.
